Lakeland Leads

Lakeland Leads is a 501c(3) nonprofit, independent, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to produce high-quality research and tangible public policy recommendations designed to help improve Lakeland’s K-12 education landscape and make Lakeland a better place to live, work and raise a family. In the K-12 education arena, Lakeland Leads promotes a high-quality education for all Lakeland children through finding the most promising and successful education reform initiatives from across America and supporting their launch or replication in Lakeland.

Kate Wallace

Kate Wallace is the founding executive director of Lakeland Leads and focuses on ensuring all Lakeland children have access to a quality education. Before joining Lakeland Leads, Kate was the director of public affairs for Florida Internet & Television (FIT), a cable company trade association. Prior to joining FIT, Kate was the director of external affairs in Florida for the Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd), a nonprofit education advocacy organization chaired by former Gov. Jeb Bush. A Bartow native, Kate earned a B.S. in Public Relations from the University of Florida. As a college student, she interned with Congress and the White House. After college, she worked in the federal government relations offices of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Triadvocates, an Arizona-based lobbying firm. Upon returning to Florida, Kate worked with The Fiorentino Group, a Jacksonville government affairs firm, before joining ExcelinEd in 2012. She is active with the Junior League of Greater Lakeland, the United Way of Central Florida Young Leaders Society, the Taxslayer Gator Bowl Committee and Leadership Florida, among other organizations.
