Hello and welcome to the week 3 recap of session 2! Our theme was Leadership Outside the Workplace. Participants were given the opportunity to put their leadership skills to the test and serve local nonprofits.

To kick tings off we had a delicious breakfast from Genesis Pastries. Katie gave us an overview of what we were going to do that day and she welcomed former US congressman Dennis Ross. Mr. Ross talked about how to be a good leader in the community. I loved how he was able to share his insight about different leaders he has seen and what qualities he thinks are most important in a leader.

After Mr. Ross’ insightful talk we set off these locations: Kids Pack, Viste, and Parker Street Ministries. I went to Parker Street and had a blast! We heard from Tim Mitchell and Christina Allen who provided an overview of Parker Street. Having grown up here, I have known both of them for a very long time and every time I go my love for Parker Street always grows. We then served the kids lunch and then we helped the kids in a lesson on how to draw from Josh “Bump” Galletta. Bump did a great job in holding the kids short attention spans and showed them awesome ways to draw robots and monsters.

The other two groups, who went to Kids Pack and Viste, had a similar layout. They were given overviews of the organization and then set off to serve. Everyone I talked to had a blast. They expressed how cool it was to serve these organizations and how their hearts grew for them.

When we returned from these organizations, we had ice cream at Catapult as a reward for a day of hard work. As they ate, the groups had to create a presentation about their organizations and answer a set of questions and share highlights and what they did.

After they finished, we headed to our social at Swan Brewing!

Thank you so much for reading!
